Interior
Up front, the cabin feels adequately luxurious. Surrounded by some real quality materials, the 10.2-inch infotainment system display uses what is one of the best systems on the market. The easy-to-use iDrive invited the front-seat occupants to control the car's functionalities through the user-friendly control on the centre console.
Rear leg room is great and headroom is ample due to the sloping roofline which helped the X6 define the Coupé-SUV segment. Behind the 40:20:40 split folding rear seats lies a 580-litre boot which can extend to a cavernous 1,525 litres with all rear seats folded down. Despite offering a great amount of space, it still doesn't quite cut it with the likes of the Porsche Cayenne and the Range Rover Sport both offering more than 1,700 litres.
Equipment
Standard kit for the X6 is generous with part-electric heated front seats, Bluetooth® and USB connectivity, cruise control, automatic headlights and windscreen wipers and xenon headlights. Optional equipment comes in the form of a Pure Extravagance Pack for £3,445 which comprises of a bodykit and illumination. You can also get cheaper (notice I say 'cheaper' and not 'cheap') kit like a head-up display, a Harman/Kardon sound system and various seat options.
Powertrain
The entry-level 3.0-litre straight-six diesel unit produces 258 bhp and 560 Nm, but if you go by the official figures it still manages an impressed 47.1 mpg whilst emitting 157 g/km. That's the xDrive30d.
The xDrive40d is, again, a 3.0-litre straight-six diesel engine but this time producing 313 bhp and 630 Nm. BMW claims you can achieve 45.6 mpg and emit 163 g/km. I'd be impressed if I were to get around the 40 mpg mark.
Petrol power comes in the form of the xDrive50i. It's a huge 4.4-litre V8 churning out 650 Nm of torque and 450 bhp. With a claimed combined cycle consumption of 29.1 mpg, this anti-Greenpeace machine emits 225 g/km of CO2.
There are also 2 performance versions. The first of which, the M50d, is similar to the other diesels in that it uses a 3.0-litre straight-six. With 381 bhp and 740 Nm, this is good for a 0-62 mph sprint in 5.2 seconds. Despite these figures, BMW claims you can get 42.8 mpg and 174 g/km.
If what really impresses you is a 0-62 mph time of 4.2 seconds for an almost two-and-a-half-tonne vehicle, then go for the ridiculously priced X6 M. Its 4.4-litre V8 produces 575 bhp and 750 Nm but struggles to get anywhere near BMW's claimed figures of 25.4 mpg, emitting 258 g/km.
