As of March the 26th, the i20 Coupé has been available in showrooms across the UK. From £12,725, the i20 Coupé is at a £2,033 premium over the standard New Generation i20 Hatchback.
But to make sure the standard i20 doesn't go without notice, trim upgrades have been made in the form of Premium Nav and Premium SE Nav at £14,400 and £15,400 respectively.
Engines
There's a small choice of engines with the i20 Coupé. Just an 84 PS 1.2-litre petrol and a 90 PS 1.4-litre diesel. Both are 4-cylinder units, are 12-second-plus reaching 62 mph and have sub-110 mph top speeds. The petrol (which comes with a 5-speed manual gearbox) returns 55.4 mpg and emits 119 g/km of CO2, and the diesel's figures are slightly more impressive at 68.9 mpg and 106 g/km of CO2 (this one comes with a 6-speed manual 'box). It's a real shame that a car that has a 1,280 kg kerb weight in its heaviest form cannot be a member of the sub-100 g/km of CO2 club! You can tow a tonne braked, or half a tonne unbraked.
Inside
With the rear seats up, a 311-litre boot puts it at the top of its class, with the nearest being the Ford Fiesta with its 290-litre capacity, followed by the Kia Rio 3dr at 288 l. Fold the 60:40 split folding rear seats down though, and get 986 litres of space giving it firm competition in its class being beaten by the Peugeot 208 3dr and New Vauxhall Corsa 3dr with 1152 and 1090 litres respectively, closely followed by the Fiesta 3dr with 974 litres and the 950-litre boot offered by the All New Mazda2.
Entry level SE models are well-equipped and come with a leather wrapped gear knob and multifunction steering wheel, cloth upholstery, driver's seat height adjustability, air con, cruise control with speed limiter, two 12V sockets in the centre console, a cooled glove compartment, electric front windows, reverse parking sensors, Bluteooth®, 4 speakers and USB and aux-in connectivity. Step up to Sport for an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, cigarette control with an automatic front window de-fog system, 6 speakers and a front armrest. Sport Nav adds a 7" touchscreen sat nav with a rear-view camera and DAB radio.
Outside
Body-coloured electrically adjustable and heated door mirrors with integrated indicators are standard as well as body-coloured door handles, 16" alloys, a rear spoiler, front fog lights, halogen projector headlights and LED daytime running lights. Seventeen-inch alloys are standard on Sport models as well as automatic headlights and wipers, rear LED lights, and privacy glass. Sport Nav brings no exterior upgrades. To set the Coupé apart from the Hatchback, Tangerine Orange Pearl paint is offered.
Safety
Not only are 6 airbags, rear-seat ISOFIX points, ESP and ABS standard kit, but so are Emergency Stop Signal (ESS), Hill-start Assist Control (HAC), speed-sensitive automatic door locking with impact-sensing automatic door unlocking, from seatbelt pretensioners, front and rear seatbelt reminders, a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) and Vehicle Stability Management (VSM). Sport models add individual wheel monitoring to the TPMS.
My Hyundai i20 Coupé
If I were to buy an i20 Coupé on a reasonable budget, here's how I'd spec it:
