Unveiled at the 2015 Seoul Motor Show, the Kia Novo Fastback is "aimed at modern urbanites with stressful jobs and frantic schedules". No, I didn't know 'urbanite' was a word. Yes, it's my new favourite word, and it'll certainly find home in many a conversation to come!
'Novo' comes from the Latin 'novatus', which is, sit down and take a deep breath(!), the perfect passive participle of 'novō' which means 'to make new'. Without going into a language lesson, a perfect passive participle is a verb describing something that happened to a noun in the past tense. A modern derivative of 'novatus' is 'innovative'.
Outside, minimal front overhangs and extended rear overhangs combined with a fastback roofline and long, narrow windows give us the impression of a sporty car, similar to that of the production Audi A7 Sportback. Kia's 'tiger-nose' grille has been conceptified. That's a word that doesn't actually exist which to me means it has had its proportions blown up to look highly unlike a production car. The Rolls-Rouce-style rear-hinged rear doors similar to those of the Tesla Model X add a touch of luxury.
Inside, relevant information is in the format of a 3D hologram display and the 'blind control' touch pad located near the steering wheel allows the driver to safely control the car'a features without having to take his or her eyes away from the road ahead. It incorporates a fingerprint scanner, Kia's take on Apple's Touch ID, which is used to customise the car's settings such as audio and information preferences. The four sports seats are wrapped in a dark brown leather.
A 1.6-litre T-GDI (turbocharged gasoline direct injection) engine is used in conjunction with a 7-DCT (7-speed dual clutch transmission). It's a front-wheel-drive vehicle.
